Egypt Secures €30 Million Grant from Germany for Green Hydrogen Production

October 09, 2024 [Egypt Oil & Gas]- During his participation in the Hamburg Sustainability Conference in Germany, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi witnessed the signing of a €30 million grant deal with the German government for a green hydrogen production project in Egypt.

 

This project will be developed by Norwegian Scatec ASA in cooperation with Fertiglobe and Orascom Construction, the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), and Power 2XD&G GMBH, a subsidiary of the German Bank for Development.

During the ceremony, attended by Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania A. Al-Mashat and German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze, Minister Badawi highlighted Egypt’s great assets that enable it to turn into a pioneering country in the field of renewable energy and production of green hydrogen.

He noted that this accord would promote cooperation between Egypt and its international partners for supporting projects of green hydrogen and ammonia production in the country.

He also affirmed the commitment of the Egyptian government to promote coordination and cooperation between different sectors to achieve Egypt’s vision of turning into a regional hub for the production of green hydrogen.
