EnBW Seeks Offtakers for Green Ammonia Project in Norway
07.30.2024 By Tank Terminals - NEWS

July 30, 2024 [Renewables Now]- German electric utility EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG has initiated a process to market green ammonia from a new plant to be built in western Norway, with deliveries starting from 2027.

The Skipavika Green Ammonia (SkiGA) facility is expected to produce 100,000 tonnes of ammonia per year and is scheduled to start operation in the second half of 2027.

The volumes of ammonia can be shipped to various delivery locations, including the port of Skipavika in Norway, selected terminals in Western Europe or industrial sites, including in Germany.

Companies interested in buying green ammonia should register online on EnBW’s website to submit their bids for the available capacity.

The SkiGA project involves the construction of a 130 MW electrolyser powered by local green electricity. According to the statement, the facility is expected to lower carbon emissions by around 240,000 metric tonnes annually compared to the conventional ammonia production process.

EnBW is supporting the SkiGA project as a strategic partner and has exclusive purchase rights for the full green ammonia to be produced at the plant. The German utility acquired a 10% stake in the project in 2023, starting a co-operation with Norwegian green ammonia company Fuella.
