Gasunie Shuts Eemshaven LNG Terminal For Maintenance
11.22.2022 By Ella Keskin - NEWS

November 22, 2022 [Riviera Maritime Media Singapore ] – Dutch gas transmission network operator Gasunie has closed its new LNG import hub in the Dutch port of Eemshaven for planned maintenance.

The maintenance would last from November 22 up to and including November 29, according to Gasunie’s unit and the terminal operator, EemsEnergyTerminal.

A Gasunie spokeswoman told LNG Prime that the terminal would receive next LNG cargo around December 6-7.

The firm expects the facility to reach full production at the end of December or beginning of January, the spokeswoman said.

The new terminal with a capacity of about 8 bcm per year started delivering regasified LNG to the Dutch grid in September in record time as European countries look to slash reliance on Russian pipeline gas and boost energy security.

It consists of two chartered floating storage and regasification units or FSRUs.

The units include Exmar’s 26,000-cbm barge-based FSRU Eemshaven LNG and the 170,000-cbm Energos Igloo, previously known as Golar Igloo. A joint venture of asset manager Apollo and US LNG firm NFE owns Energos Igloo.

According to EemsEnergyTerminal, the LNG terminal received its tenth LNG vessel earlier this month, roughly equal to one billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Shell booked 4 bcm while CEZ took 3 bcm of the Eemshaven terminal’s total capacity. France’s Engie secured the remaining 1 bcm of capacity.

Wes Edens-led NFE is also looking to book capacity at the facility on top of the FSRU charter.

The Eemshaven LNG hub is the first FSRU-based facility in the Netherlands and the country’s second LNG import facility after Gate, located in Rotterdam and owned by Gasunie and Vopak.
