November 8, 2021 [spglobal] – Marathon Petroleum on Nov. 2 said it was “pursuing strategic alternatives” for its Kenai, Alaska, refinery and its related operations “which could include a sale” as it looks to optimize its portfolio, the company said in its third-quarter earnings statement.

The refinery is located on Cook Inlet, about 60 miles southwest of Anchorage. It was acquired by Marathon with its acquisition of fellow refiner Andeavor in 2018. The plant processes mainly Alaska domestic crude such as Alaska North Slope as well as some international crudes, primarily Russian Sokol.
