April 10, 2020 [Hydrocarbons Technology] – China’s energy giant China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) has started building storage tanks at Tianjin terminal project.

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks are being constructed as part of the project’s second phase. The plan includes the construction of five LNG tanks, reported Reuters.

According to the news agency, each tank will have a storage capacity of 220,000m³ and a berth for LNG vessels.

The second phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of next year. By then, the terminal will be expanded to a capacity of 10.8 million tonnes per annum.

Currently, the capacity of the terminal is six million tonnes per annum.

Until now, Tianjin terminal has received 11.21 million tonnes of LNG. The first phase of the terminal was launched in March 2018.

In December last year, China Daily reported that Sinopec completed the re-gasification capacity expansion work for the second phase of the Tianjin terminal.

With this, the LNG terminal’s re-gasification capacity is 45 million cubic metres per day.
