May 20, 2019 [Offshore Technology] – McDermott International has secured a new engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contract from Petrobras for the first phase of development in the Sepia field offshore Brazil.

The company has classified the contract as ‘significant’, which means that value of the contract could be between $250m and $500m.

The scope of the contract includes detailed engineering, surveys, delivery, installation and pre-commissioning of rigid pipelines, jumpers, buoyance modules, strakes and riser monitoring systems for seven-riser wells. These wells, which comprise three producer and four injector variants, will be connected to the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) Carioca vessel.

McDermott will execute the project work from its office in Rio de Janeiro, with engineering work expected to commence immediately. The company’s Houston office will provide the necessary support. It plans to deploy five vessels to carry out the installation work at ultra-deepwater depths up to 2,140m.

McDermott North, Central and South America senior vice-president Mark Coscio said: “McDermott has had a strong presence in Brazil going back more than four decades, and we see tremendous opportunity for growth in the region.

“We will use our first-class assets and proven track record to deliver the highest levels of safety, quality and cost-efficiency during the first phase of this important greenfield development.”

The Sepia field is situated around 280km from the Rio de Janeiro coastline in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin in Block BM-S-24. The first phase of the project forms a part of a 15 well development plan. The project is expected to deliver first oil in 2021.
