FERC Issues Draft EIS for Jordan Cove LNG
04.15.2019 By Greta Talmaci - NEWS

April 15, 2019 [LNG World News] – Jordan Cove LNG project led by the Canadian energy infrastructure company Pembina has been issued a draft environmental impact statement by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

FERC said in its notice that the draft EIS assesses the potential environmental effects of the construction and operation of the project in Coos County, Oregon.

“FERC staff concludes that approval of the project would result in a number of significant environmental impacts; however, the majority of impacts would be less than significant because of the impact avoidance, minimization, and mitigation measures proposed by Jordan Cove and Pacific Connector and those recommended by staff in the draft EIS,” the notice reads.

FERC invited for the public to submit comments on the draft EIS by July 5, 2019.

The $10 billion project in Coos County, Oregon has a planned capacity of 7.8 million ton per annum.

In early March, Stuart Taylor, senior vice president of marketing and new ventures at Pembina said the project has signed non-binding deals for 11 million tons of LNG per year.

Firm deals are expected to be signed in the coming months as the company is currently engaged in negotiations over the binding contract details.

A federal regulatory decision is expected by November 2019, with Pembina planning to produce first volumes from the facility in 2024.
