Spain’s CEPSA Developing Drones that Can Inspect Oil Facilities
06.01.2018 - NEWS

June 01, 2018 [PetrolPlaza] - Spanish oil company Cepsa is teaming up with engineering firm La Línea Vertical and Dronetool to develop an aerial technology for oil facilities inspection and maintenance.

The project, called Inspection with Contact Drone (ICDRON), aims to develop a new, accurate, and safe drone or remote-controlled aircraft system for industrial environments and difficult to access structures like oil refineries, pipelines, and storage tanks.

The system will be pilot-tested at Cepsa’s facility in San Roque, Cádiz, with project results expected to be available by 2020.

ICDRON is backed by the Center for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI) of the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competition, and has the technological support of the Avionics and Systems Division of FADA-CATEC’s Advanced Center for Aerospace Technologies.
