November 10, 2017 [Reuters] - China National Offshore Oil Company, or CNOOC, has recorded 1 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) sales for January to October that was moved by gas trailers from its floating terminal off the northern Chinese city of Tianjin, local media reported on Tuesday.
The record sales were four times as much as the same period last year, as an aggressive government push to heat millions of homes in northern China has spurred a bustling spot trade to meet the soaring demand for the fuel.
CNOOC has since November renewed leasing from French utility Engie “Cape Ann”, a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) for the heating season from mid-November though mid-March.
The facility received on Monday a 65,000-tonne LNG cargo from the United States, local media reported.
