October 17, 2017 [CLH] - Orpic Logistics Company (OLC), a company jointly created by Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos (CLH) and Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries (Orpic), has started its commercial operations in Oman.
The CLH subsidiary has commissioned the storage facility in Al Jefnain, near Muscat, which consists of a new oil product storage and distribution centre with a capacity of over 170,000 cubic metres and 16 loading racks.
The road tankers of the major oil operators in the country have successfully completed the first fuel loading operations. The new plant is equipped with the latest technology, which enables the loading process to be completely automated from the moment the road tankers enters the facility until the relevant documentation is printed.
According to the chairman of the CLH Group, José Luis López de Silanes: “We are proud of launching the first stage of such an important operation for the country, which will make it possible to transform its logistics system for oil products into a safer, more efficient and sustainable model”.
For his part, the company’s CEO, Jorge Lanza, has highlighted the professionalism of everyone at CLH and OLC who participated in the launch of the first stage of the project: “Thanks to their dedication and efforts, we are achieving the ambitious goals we have set for ourselves in Oman”.
Currently, the facility in Al Jefnain receives fuel from the Sohar refinery through a new pipeline, the first one of the type built in the country, which makes it possible to reduce fuel transport by road and to increase the safety and efficiency of fuel distribution in Oman.
Also, the new network is equipped with the latest control, safety and environmental protection systems and for its construction CLH has applied its extensive knowledge on the management of this type of logistics systems.
After the inauguration of this first phase, it is expected that in forthcoming months the new plant will also be connected via pipeline with the refinery in Mina Al Fahal and Muscat international airport, to which it will supply aviation fuel.
When fully operational, the new logistics system will supply over 50% of the country’s fuel. It will contribute to improving road safety and will provide a higher supply capacity of aviation fuel, as well as greater efficiency and sustainability, thanks to the use of the pipeline as a means of transport.
