SJR Delivers 13 Tanks to ACT Saudi Arabia

February 8, 2016 [Port of Rotterdam Authority] - SJR is shipping 13 storage tanks (nine tanks of 1,350 m3 capacity and four of 2,700 m3 capacity) to Saudi Arabia. Following fabrication at SJR’s production facilities in Bolnes, the Netherlands, the tanks were transported by barge to the Broekman Break Bulk Terminal at Waalhaven in the Port of Rotterdam (Broekman Project Services).

Weighing in excess of 900 tonnes, the tanks will be transported by the heavy cargo ship Big Lift Happy Delta to the Jubail chemical terminal operated by Arabian Chemical Terminals (ACT). After the 24-day voyage, SJR will install the tanks on location, almost doubling the terminal’s capacity.

ACT selected SJR because of its climate-controlled fabrication techniques and its experience with Lump Sum Turnkey prefabricated tank construction. Kasper Castricum, Terminal & Business Operations Manager at ACT, states: “Tanks that are built inside are of better quality than tanks built on site. Furthermore, the short lead time and fast delivery were of crucial importance. We are also particularly happy with the fact that the tanks are not being built in an operations zone at the terminal. This avoids risks and downtime. Moreover, the tanks have been comprehensively treated and all measurement and instrumentation equipment and vertical air ducts have been installed. All in all, we have total peace of mind as the job is fully complete.”

SJR works with the latest production methods and carries out contracts with turnkey methods. SJR Managing Director/Owner Robert Sloot explains: “Our work processes are becoming increasingly automated, giving us the ability to guarantee delivery times. In recent years, we have carried out more and more of the tank construction itself, including coating and insulating as well as the installation of accessories, stairs and landings. We have constructed these tanks with internal aluminium floating roofs, to prevent emissions from the product.”
