August 11, 2015 [PortNews IAA] - In January-July 2015, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 23,709,500 t of cargo (+1%, year-on-year).
As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment climbed by 2.3% to 8,676,900 t, oil products – up 6% to 6,528,700 t, wood pellets – up 12.9% to 357,300 t, scrap metal – down 45.8% to 329,600 t, ore – down 40% to 126,800 t.
The port’s container throughput declined by 4.2% to 208,950 TEUs. Passenger turnover fell by 38.8% to 310,034 people including 40,339 cruise passengers (-6.7%).
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2014, the port’s throughput totaled 41.08 mln t.
