Summa Group Signs Agreement with Jilin Province (China) on Development of Port Zarubino (Primorsk Territory)

May 22, 2014 [PortNews IAA] - Aleksandr Vinokurov, President of Summa Group and Bayin Chaolu, Governor of Jilin Province (China) have signed an agreement on cooperation in implementation of the Big Port Zarubino project in Primorsk Territory (Russia). According to the Group’s press center, the agreement has been signed within the framework of the official visit f RF President Vladimir Putin to the People’s Republic of China.


Big Port Zarubino is supposed to be built in the Trinity bay, 18 km from the Russia-China border. Its throughput is to make 60 mln t per year (transit, export, import). The port is to handle grain, containers, dry bulk cargo, ro-ro cargo and other cargo. It will be a naturally protected deepwater port with round-the-year navigation (without deployment of ice class vessels). Transit cargo from northern provinces to southern provinces of China will account for up to 60% of the port’s turnover. Total investments into the project are to exceed RUB 40 bln. 100-hectare territory was acquired for construction of the terminals. 

The parties will cooperate in order to attract cargo flows on mutually beneficial terms. Besides, the parties will jointly promote the development of the transport corridor with the simplified customs procedure. 

The agreement states that the cooperation in implementation of the Big Port Zarubino project will facilitate the development of the economic potential of the Far East regions of Russia and Chinese provinces, as well as strengthening of Russia-China relationship.
