Vopak Plans to Bring Tianjin LPG Storage Facility On-stream in Q3 2013

March 04, 2013 [OPIS] - Dutch tank storage provider Vopak is planning to commission the second phase of its storage terminal at Tianjin, northeast China, with a minor delay in the third quarter of 2013, thus bringing 240,000 cbm of incremental propane storage capacity on-stream, spokesman Gerbert van Genderen Stort said Friday.

The joint venture project with Tianjin Bohai Chemical Industry Group (Bohai) will add three low-temperature tanks of 80,000 cbm each to the existing facility whose initial capacity of 95,300 cbm is dedicated to the storage of chemicals.

The expanded development, previously slated for a second-quarter start-up, also includes a new pipeline connection with Tianjin Bohua Petrochemical’s plant in the Lingang Industry Park.

The Chinese LPG project is part of a wider expansion drive at the Rotterdam-based group which last year claimed a 10.2% share on the global independent tank storage market

For the next three years, Vopak has projects with a combined capacity of 5.2 million cbm under construction, which are envisaged to bring its total storage capacity to 35.1 million cbm by the end of 2015, including joint ventures.
