September 17, 2012 [Energy See News] Anglo-Dutch oil major Royal Dutch Shell plc has terminated a contract with Norwegian tankers and terminals operator Odfjell SE, Dutch broadcaster BNR said Tuesday evening, citing a Shell spokesperson.
This was done as Odfjell could not fulfil its contractual obligations, the spokesperson was quoted as saying. The Anglo-Dutch oil major had hired more than half the capacity of Odfjell’s terminal in the port of Rotterdam.
On August 1, Shell notified Odfjell of unfulfilled obligations regarding the safety at the terminal and asked the Norwegian company to resolve the issue within a month.
The oil major said yesterday it was not seeing any reasons to expect improvement and the contact was terminated with immediate effect.
After a series of incidents in July, the operations of Odfjell in the Botlek area were nearly frozen. Meanwhile, 19 out of the 283 tanks in Rotterdam have become operational.
