Diesel to boost Caltex business

December 21, 2009 [Daily Mercury] - CALTEX Mackay Terminal’s first delivery of diesel marked a milestone for the Bowen Basin. The delivery on Friday meant that the $15 million upgrade project, which included the installation of a new tank capable of holding 27.000 m3 of diesel, was nearing its completion.

The new tank would help Caltex support a growing customer base, including large mining and resource operators in the Bowen Basin, with reliable and cost-efficient supply, Caltex Australia spokesperson Georgie Wells said.
“It more than doubles the diesel capacity and throughput at Caltex’s Mackay terminal,” Ms Wells said.
“This will reduce the frequency of ship deliveries of diesel from Caltex’s Lytton terminal to about once a fortnight.
“Early in the new year, a facility to allow storage and blending locally of E10 (Ethanol/ULP blend) fuel will also be completed.
“These projects are part of a larger infrastructure improvement program at the terminal which previously saw the facilities upgraded.
“With mining and industry continuing to thrive in the Bowen Basin, Caltex is excited to be able to play its part by ensuring security of supply to the region.
“The new infrastructure strengthens the important link between the North Queensland diesel market and our new diesel hydrotreater at Lytton,” she said.
The first delivery of diesel was delivered into the tank by the vessel Palmerston which was moored at the Mackay port’s Number One berth, Ms Wells said.
